Who we are?
Because of continuous scientific and technical developments, educational programs in Gastroenterology and Endoscopy are needed more than ever before. This is not only true for GI fellows but also for gastroenterologists who wants to become super-specialist in a specific area or technique.
The Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology of the University Hospital of Santiago de Compostela is internationally recognized as Educational and Research Center of Excellence in Gastroenterology. This is especially relevant in the areas of Pancreatology, Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP).
The International Center for Education and Development in Gastroenterology (ICEDiG) aims at promoting super-specialized educational programs in Gastroenterology and Endoscopy, as well as scientific and technological development activities.
ICEDiG aims at educating practical physicians and health managers on different endoscopic techniques and their economical impact. This refers to four different activity domains:
Initial education of residents and fellows in the use and applicability of the different endoscopic techniques as part of their academic specialized education.
Advanced education of Gastroenterologists and Endoscopists through hands-on courses in our Department.
Educational programs for health managers with the aim of communicating the impact of the different endoscopic techniques on clinical management.
Educational collaborative programs with other international institutions.
